Today I went to Target to pick up a few essentials and walked out spending $163. How does this happen? But I do have to say, I got a lot of good stuff for South Beach/weight loss.
A Brita Water Pitcher. I was watching The Biggest Loser the other night (so inspirational!) and they made a statement that this year on the show, everyone is going to use Brita pitchers and have their own reusable water bottle that they can keep filling up. They’re doing this to help the environment. I actually read something about this recently. So much of our landfills are getting full with these plastic water bottles. I am a huge recycler, but still, I go through a ton of those little bottles just by myself. I thought about it, and if I buy the Safeway brand water on sale,I get 24 16.9 ounce bottles for $3.99. If I’m drinking water like I should be (at least 4 of these bottles a day), I can go through a whole case (24) in a week. $4 x 4 weeks is $16 a month. In a year I’d spend $192 on water. Yikes! At my duplex I don’t have to pay for water, so why not use a Brita pitcher and buy my own reusable bottle? Plus, this article points out that bottled water isn’t regulated like tap water is. If you don’t like the taste of tap water, the Brita filter takes care of any “yucky stuff” that may be left in it. This makes a lot of sense, both economically and environmentally. So today I found out that Target had the Brita Pitchers on sale for $24.99. Good deal! I also bought a pack of 4 filters for $24.99, so I have enough filters for the next 10 months (1 came with the purchased filter). I filled it up, and am ready to use it.
Reusable water bottle. In order to make using the Brita pitcher a bit easier at work, I bought a cute, purple reusable bottle. This one has a straw in it, which makes drinking water so much easier for me. I’m all set for school on Monday. (ugh, Monday is so soon, but it must come, I guess).
South Beach Diet bars. I found a bunch of SBD meal replacement and cereal bars! This is so perfect, because I don’t like (can’t stand) eggs, and it’s difficult to find good, nutricious breakfasts to make on school mornings. When I have time, I love having oatmeal that I can make, but most school day mornings I’m running around just trying to get myself ready by 7:30 am when I have to leave. These bars make it really easy to grab something and go. I found them first at Safeway, but the prices were a bit high. Now that I’m in Phase 2, I have these with a yogurt, and I’m all set until lunch.
People’s 1/2 Their Size Issue. When I was getting my nails done this morning, my nail lady mentioned this newest issue of People magazine. She said the stories were so inspiring, and she told me I should read it. I bought it, and they do have some amazing weight loss stories. I love that all of the people lost huge amounts of weight without surgery. They even featured one lady who had lost 160 lbs. on South Beach! I was so excited. Because other than Jennette, I don’t know of too many people who have lost this much on South Beach. (Jennette’s blog, Half of Me, is amazing, by the way. You should totally check it out. She has a book coming out that I can’t wait to read (I pre-ordered it on Amazon, and you should, too)). Anyway, I know of several people who have lost smaller amounts of weight (comparatively), like 20-60 lbs., but since I need to lose about 150 or so, I was wondering if it would work for me. If these ladies could do it, I know that I cant too. I haven’t read the articles yet, but I’m looking forward to doing that tonight before bed.
George Foreman sponges. I didn’t actually buy these today; I got them a few weeks ago. These are the best! I love my George Foreman grill for making all of my lean protein in a snap, but it was a BIG PAIN to clean the thing. It would use up all of my sponges and I would never get them clean again. Or, I tried using a bunch of paper towels, only to go through almost half a roll. What a waste. These sponges have ridges exactly as the George Foreman grill does, so it works perfectly. I don’t know what it is about the sponge, but as soon as I rinse it out, it gets clean. My normal sponges never did that when I cleaned the grill. These sponges have made me enjoy using the grill because I know cleanup is going to be a breeze. If you use a George Foreman grill, I highly recommend these.
That’s it. It was a very successful (albeit expensive) trip to Target. Buying these things (and investing the money) really helps me stay on track with following SBD and working out. I’m determined to go workout tomorrow morning so that I can continue the routine I started earlier this week.
I hope you get some great tips from this post.

I pledge to lose 30 POUNDS this summer!
