This week has been pretty good, considering how ill I’ve been. I’ve tracked every single day and stayed within my points. This weekend I used a lot of flex points when I celebrated with CTLB and her husband, who were visiting from Boston, but that’s what they’re for. Plus, we had so much fun seeing each other.
Still no exercise because of the bronchitis. I’m feeling better, but going in for a full day of work on Monday was tough. Still only at 50% or so of normal. I’m anticipating the weigh in tomorrow. Not sure how my body will handle such lack of activity. We’ll see.
My main goal for the coming week is to go through (eat!) the food in my freezer in my attempt to waste less food. I read in the newspaper this weekend that on average, Americans throw out 15-40% of the food they buy. (If you have a few minutes, I highly recommend clicking the link to read the article; there are a lot of great tips on how to eat more healthily on a budget). Literally, money in the garbage! My journalism students and I are volunteering at a local food bank on Thursday evening as a way to give back and bond as a class. I am really hoping to help them (as well as the entire student body) take on Obama’s call for every American to become more active and volunteer, so volunteerism has been a focus of many of our articles this year. I’m happy we’ll be able to help out at the food bank, but when I think of all those hungry people who would love to have the food that I throw out, it makes me feel so guilty. I’m definitely inspired to do better. I’m challenging you to do the same.
A huge thank you to everyone for the well wishes of a speedy recovery. I am really going to do my best to get healthy!
I hope you all have a glorious week!!

We used to throw out TONS of food, each week we threw out all kinds of things. We’ve really gotten better about wasting less food this year, mainly by packing leftovers for lunch. I’m not a huge fan of leftovers (casseroles and soups/stews are a different story) but I make myself pack them and put them in finances lunch all of the time.
The freezer on the other hand, well, that could use a cleaning out! Maybe I’ll join you in the great freezer clean out! Might take me a couple of weeks, ha!
I’ve gotten much better at not wasting food, but I still have a ways to go. Tomatoes are my biggest problem. They’re so pretty in the store and I must have them all. Then I can’t eat them all.
Great idea on using the volunteerism theme for your class!
Here’s wishing you back to 100% soon!
Bella, i’m sorry I haven’t been around (bad blogger friend!) i got a little down and fell off the wagon..
sorry you’ve been sick!!! I hope you’re much better soon. I think i’m going to take a rest from the challenge, however.. cause it makes me feel like a failure.
My goal is still to lose weight (not a specific number) and get stronger and not GAIN And get weak over the holidays.
i need to keep this wagon rolling.
Thanks so much for your comments yesterday.. and for checking in so quickly.
you rock. hugs.
WTG on getting your class to volunteer at the food bank! I hate when things go bad and I have to throw them out. I’ve started taking my left overs from dinner for lunch everyday and that’s helped quite a bit. Except when I decide that the mexican restaurant sounds better
