After my last post, I was really motivated to take action and start getting my life back together. Sometimes that’s all it takes to make me feel better – taking some sort of positive action.
Saturday
I spent a good portion of Saturday running around doing errands. More specifically, I went in search of a fuel/hydration belt that would actually fit me. You can read the update on this post, if you want to hear more about that.
Because the stores I went to were literally across town (actually in two different cities) from each other, I spent a huge amount of time just driving from here to there. I love driving, especially on the weekends when it’s less hectic and people don’t seem like they’re rushing around quite as much as they do during commute times. I actually listened to one of my favorite mix cds, and felt really happy.
It also helped that the weather was gorgeous on Saturday! We’ve been having lots of rain lately, and going days and days without seeing the sun makes me a little nuts. As much as I think Seattle is a great city, I know I could never live there, because the overcast days would get to me after a while. Even though I wasn’t out on a picnic or a bike ride and really enjoying the weather, it was still so nice to feel the sun on my face (through the sunroof in my car) as I was driving around.
After most of the errands were finished I decided to go grocery shopping at Whole Foods, something I very rarely do. No matter how many people say that you can find deals there if you shop smartly, I maintain that the store is really overpriced. However, they do have wonderful options, especially in the prepared food/deli section. I decided to treat myself and buy a few items that I knew I couldn’t find anywhere else. There was the brown rice tuna sushi, the polenta with shitake mushrooms, and the orzo & feta salad with kalamata olives (ok, they have that one at other places, but the price wasn’t too high and it sounded like a nice lunch option). I also bought some beautifully fresh strawberries, blackberries, and tangerines. The other thing I bought that I’d read about at Sweetie Pie’s blog was the Lesser Evil Black & White Kettle Corn. Whole Foods is the only local place I’ve found this awesome snack, and after reading about how much she liked it, I knew I had to try it for myself. I wasn’t let down – the mix of chocolate and regular kettle corn was the perfect mix of sweet and salty. 1 cup is only 2 points, and it’s delicious. I’m definitely going to have this again.
After the grocery shopping, I got home and began a bit of laundry. It was late enough in the day that I didn’t want to start my big cleaning project, although I did tidy up a bit here and there. I had a nice, light dinner of the polenta and a small salad, and enjoyed a bit of t.v.. I went to bed early, because I wanted to get up and get to work the next day.
Sunday
Sunday was all about cleaning the house from top to bottom. The kitchen, the bathroom, the living room, the bedroom. I washed the floors did more laundry, and basically got the house back into order. I still have to change the sheets, but I’m planning on doing that tonight, so that’s fine. It always makes me feel so good to have my house clean and tidy. As I’ve said before, I really do believe that the way I keep my house is a reflection of how organized my life is at the moment. And right now things are in order.
Losing the hour yesterday to Daylight Savings Time wasn’t too big a deal, because I got so much accomplished. It was so nice to end the weekend with things looking and feeling the way I like them.
I’m so glad I took this weekend to just get myself back together. I needed it, and it made a huge difference in my entire outlook.
The “almost” in the title refers to the fact that I never worked out this weekend. I was so busy organizing and cleaning and getting myself together that it was too late both days. I was planning on waking up early this morning to go workout, but that didn’t happen either. I did go today after school, and it felt great.
I’m a firm believer in the idea that movement of any kind is exercise. 🙂 It beats laying around on the sofa!
