SBD has been going really well. I’m finding the food so delicious, and I love the fact that I can make it work with an active social life, even on Phase 1. This week my focus has been on exercising, and I’m proud to say that I’m on a roll. Monday: aqua, Tuesday: Afro-Belly Boogie, today: swimming. It’s so nice to be back in the swing of things in terms of fitness.
Which means I lost 3.4 lbs this week, 5.8 lbs so far this summer, and a total loss of 20.6 pounds overall. I’m very happy with these numbers, but I’m a bit bummed because I weighed even less yesterday (289.6). I always go up a bit on the scale after I have an intense workout. Always.
And since I love going to the Tuesday night Afro Belly Boogie class, I’m thinking about moving my weigh in day. But is that too scale obsessed? Because there are classes that I’d like to take every day, each of them with varying degrees of intensity. There is no perfect weigh in day. And really, 0.8 isn’t that big a deal in the grand scheme of things.
But the thing that I need to celebrate is the fact that I am eating real food, around 1300-1400 calories a day, and losing weight. Fairly significant weight loss, at that. Sometimes it really is as simple as eating right, moving your body, and being mindful.
Wow! Congrats! 3.4 lbs lost this week, that’s amazing! I just started yet another weight loss journey yesterday and looking at other people’s weekly successes is giving me hope!! keep it up!
You’re in this for the long haul. As long as the number continues to decrease (and you’re assessing your progress with other non-weight signs of success), you’re winning. A weigh in day truly doesn’t matter. Nor does the fact that you were 0.8lbs lighter a day earlier. (Although it IS a nice ego boost.) Console yourself that the little blip in the scale reading is a sign that you’re having EFFECTIVE workouts because your body has the slight increase in weight (actually, fluids, I believe) to repair itself.
You know, you really could be a weight loss counselor on the side. Your comments always make me feel so good, and you’re always so right in your analysis. Thank you.
Any time! It’s funny you say that. I started my Master’s in Counseling before changing programs and a few years ago I seriously considered and started researching shifting to a position as a dietician specializing in weight loss counseling. Maybe one day… Thank you for the compliment! I feel as if you’re really on track for meeting your goal, so want to support in whatever way possible.
Congrats on the loss! I see that youre really loving South Beach.
I agree with Tina, the day of the week doesnt really matter so much as that it’s moving in the right direction. Granted I wouldnt weigh in on a Monday after a crazy weekend, but after a workout, eh, I’d be OK.
Weigh-in Wednesdays has such a nice ring to it…
Woo hoo! Awesome losses – go, you! 😀
“Sometimes it really is as simple as eating right, moving your body, and being mindful.”
It really is, isn’t it? Sad that it’s so easy to forget sometimes. Keep up the awesome work, lady!
WooHoo! Good job girl!
I like your goal of “Do Life!” It sounds like you are really taking action in your life and for your health. So, as long as you are and you know that, those tiny fluctuations on the scale have no effect on you. You’re so strong! Thanks for sharing your journey.
