I’ve alluded to the fact that I have decided to up my game plan in order to reach my pre-op goal by mid-December. What better way to really finish out my goal than to put in an extended effort? This plan will be in place for today, Black Friday, through the middle of December, or whenever I reach goal.
Phase 1 – 24 Hour Holiday Detox Diet
(this first appeared in Woman’s World Magazine, December 9, 2009)
Holiday Detox Juice
8 oz. unsweetened cranberry juice
8 oz. unsweetened 100% pomegranate juice
7 cups water
½ cup orange juice
½ tsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp. ground cardamom
A pinch ground cloves
- In a 3-quart saucepan, heat juices and water to just boiling. Reduce heat to low; stir in spices and simmer for 5 minutes. Warm juice before drinking. Makes 9.5 cups.
Fat-melting lemon water
- For each serving, mix 8 oz. water with juice of ½ lemon or 1 Tbs. bottled lemon juice.
The detox alternates between drinking the lemon water and the detox juice every waking hour.
Sample drinking schedule:
7am 1 cup lemon water
8am 1 cup detox juice
9am 1 cup lemon water
10am 1cup detox juice and so on…
I first heard about this detox from a YouTube video that BandedWendy did a couple of years ago. And then more recently, BeautyJunkie824 followed this detox to get herself back on track and refocus her attention on healthy eating.
Since I’m staying in all day to reorganize my closets and decorate for Christmas, and I did indulge in a delicious Thanksgiving dinner last night, I figured that Black Friday was the perfect day to give this detox a try. The diet says that that people have lost up to 5 lbs in 24 hours on this detox, so it sure doesn’t hurt to give it a whirl for a day.
Phase 2 – Shakes and Bariatric Choice Food
Phase 2 will begin on Saturday, November 26th and last until I reach my goal.
I’m used to having a combination of Premier Protein shakes and the Bariatric Choice food throughout the day until dinner. Then for dinner, I’ve been having my Lean and Green meal. Well, for the next few weeks, I’m eliminating the Lean and Green meal, shaving off 200 calories, and just sticking with shakes and BC food, while eating about 1000 calories a day.
I can already see some of you raising an eyebrow in alarm, but this is something that I’m only planning to do for a few weeks. And it’s still really nutritious. The shakes are high, high protein, low fat and carbs. The BC food has high protein, but also a nice combination of carbs and fat. Both components have vitamins and minerals, plus I’m taking the vitamins recommended by Kaiser anyway. I will also start taking my fiber supplements again, just to make sure things are “regular.”
By eliminating the Lean and Green meal, I’m making sure that I am eating exactly the calories that I need to in order to lose the last of this weight. No estimating or guessing. No cooking and being tempted to have another bite or two to check the taste. Plus, I could use the extra time to workout, do some Christmas shopping, or anything else that I need to. By taking the focus off the food, I think it will make it that much easier for me get to goal.
I’m looking forward to following this simpler plan and seeing the results on the scale!
