For the month of December, I’ll be participating in #WEverb11. Each day gives a new prompt, each of which is a chance to reflect and look forward.
December 17: Discover
What did you discover (big or small) in 2011? Contributed by Kaileen Elise.

Gosh, there were lots of little discoveries for me in 2011:
- I discovered that I am a morning person. I always dread it when the alarm sounds at 5:15am for work, but this summer when I found myself up an at ’em at 7am, I realized that I love that time of the day (especially when I’m not working).
- I discovered that my body responds so much better when I eat low carb. For a long time I thought low carb eating was just sort of a fad. Yes, it helped you lose weight, but it wasn’t something that I could sustain. Until I did. And I realized how much better I feel when I eat this way. Some pasta, rice, potatoes, and bread every now and then (less than once a month) is fine, but as a lifestyle, eating low carb has really helped me look and feel better.
- I discovered that when I am overwhelmed by life, I turn to food. So now I am trying to break that pattern and do something more active or productive instead, which is slowly becoming more ingrained.
- I discovered that I am truly a person who wants to have a dog in her life from here on out. I love having the joys and the responsibilities and the cuddling and the fact that when I get home, I get greeted with huge tail wags and lots of love.
- I discovered Sofi’s breeder, Heather and her LillyBits site, and I’m so grateful. Bar none, the most caring, wonderful breeder out there, and the doggies are just so cute! If you’re in the market for a little bundle of love, please check them out.
- I discovered that it’s been far too long (years!) since my last vacation. I don’t have lots of extra funds, but I do want to make sure I take a few more quick weekend trips throughout 2012. There’s nothing like getting away from it all for a little bit to help change your perspective. Vegas with Scale Warfare will definitely top the list.
- I discovered new ways to make my favorite dishes more healthy (low carb). It’s like a fun experiment to figure out how tweak the recipes.
- I discovered that exercise is essential for my well-being. I know this sounds like a no-brainer, but I mean more than just losing weight. Mentally, exercise helps me let go of stress and feel accomplished about myself in a way that nothing else does. I love pushing myself a little farther, going a little faster, or trying something new. I let exercise slide too often this year, and I’m not going to do that in 2012. I need it too much.
- I already knew this, but I’ll say I re-discovered it this year: There’s nothing better than time spent with friend and family who love you, flaws and all.
What did you discover this year?
