1. This weekend is another long one for me – I have a furlough day on Monday. Even though I hate the fact that we had to have budget cuts this year, I have to admit, having another day off of school so soon is nice. I’m going to use the extra day to get in a great workout at the gym and get some home organization and cleaning done.

2. Yesterday I put together what I think was an adorable outfit for work, featuring a “new” blazer that I found in my closet. I got several compliments from students, which is always a good sign. Better yet, I felt great in the outfit, which is really the most important thing, don’t you think?

Since the weather has been in the high 60s, I thought it was high time for a flower in my hair to add a touch of spring to the last day of February.

3. I’m way overdue for a pedi (I never ended up getting one a few weekends ago), and I think I’m in the mood for green toes, in honor of St. Patty’s Day and the beginning of spring. Plus, I’m teaching The Great Gatsby right now in class, and green is a very symbolic color in that novel, so it works on a lot of levels:

4. My weekend plans include going for a bike ride with my sister, shopping for my niece’s Easter baskets with my mom and sister (we do things EARLY in my family), and going to the movies. I’m not sure which movie we’ll end up seeing – any suggestions? What’s the last movie you saw that you enjoyed?

5. I saw this a few weeks ago, and loved it:

Goal Style. Each week I use Polyvore to put together looks that I hope to wear when I get to goal. They serve as inspiration and motivation, and they help me develop my own sense of style along the way. I enjoying working with thematic groupings, so if you have ideas of style themes for future fashion Friday posts, please put them in the comments.

I have one more week before Spring Break, and while I’m not going anywhere this year, a girl can dream, can’t she?  If I could go anywhere, I’d hit a beach somewhere tropical.  Let’s say Hawaii.  Or maybe the Bahamas.  I wouldn’t say no to Turks and Caicos either.  As long as I can see miles and miles of ocean and sand, and work is the last thing on my mind, the WHERE doesn’t matter.

The WHAT inspired my Goal Style this week.  This set is absolutely an inspiration outfit, yet it’s so me right now.  I have this same exact fabric on my current, plus-size swimdress that I wear to aqua aerobics and to swim in, so you know I love the pattern.  And I see no reason not to keep my retro esthetic when I’m at my goal weight.  I love the red beach cruiser, and plan to buy one for myself once I get to goal.  (I currently have a great beach cruiser that I bought a few years ago, but the peach color is so not me).  And that fun wicker and pink retro convertible?  To.Die.For.  Want!!  If for nothing else but to just drive to and from the beach.  I always like cat’s eye sunglasses, so that was a no-brainer for me.  And I went fairly simple with the tote and the flip flops.

So, when does the vacay flight leave?

This look was totally and completely inspired by the funky shoes in this set. I love them! I paired the white lace dress, because with all of that going on in the shoes, there really wasn’t much leeway to do anything else. Plus there was something lacy suggested in the edges of the shoes. I thought a denim jacket would toughen up the look a bit, and I really like the way it toned down the rest of the girly-girl outfit. I found the art on Pinterest a couple of weeks ago, and I loved it because of the strong eyebrows; the colors helped bring it all together. (The piece is called Pollynesia II by Sandhi Schimmel Gold. If you like it, check out her site, she’s got fabulous stuff). The makeup is definitely something I’d wear, false lashes and all (although I’ve never really rocked falsies before, but hey, this is my fashion fantasy).

Today’s Fashion Friday is going to be a bit different because I’m going to do a review and then a giveaway, so keep on reading.

A little while ago I got an email announcing a new product line that was being offered through Fullbeauty.com. Their parent company, OneStopPlus, is a website I’ve been shopping on for the past couple of years.  They have fashionable, affordable plus-sized clothes from a variety of different labels, which makes it really convenient.  I’ve almost completely stopped shopping in brick and mortar stores because they have everything I need – tops, pants, skirts, dresses, activewear, swimsuits, pjs, and lingerie. So, when I heard about this latest offering, I knew it was something that I needed to pay attention to.

Which brings me to my point.  Bras.  I like to make sure that I have a good, supportive bra so that the rest of my outfit looks nice.  Having a bra with the proper fit is essential to looking my best.  And I’m always on the lookout for a comfortable bra, which is sometimes like trying to find the Holy Grail.

Back to Fullbeauty.com’s announcement about a new bra line they were carrying:

OneStopPlus Group announced today  that it  will be offering plus size bras from Mia  by Amoena, an  innovative  product line that features groundbreaking  technology and  sophisticated  designs, adding to fullbeauty’s definitive  selection of  bras that serve  as  wardrobe foundations.   Amoena’s line of  beautiful  lingerie offers the perfect combination of  comfort and design  with a cut  specially developed to ensure reliable fit.  Mia by Amoena’s  unique  patent-pending technology is the world’s first  lingerie line  with  temperature-equalizing Comfort+ technology.  Feminine  and flirty  bras are  made from Comfort+ material, an Outlast®  fabric  densely  saturated with  micro capsules that regulate and balance  fluctuations in a  woman’s body temperature.  The Comfort+ technology  transfers heat away  from, and back  to, the body as needed, absorbing  excess heat during a  rise  in  temperature and gently releasing it when  body temperature  decreases.  Fullbeauty.com will offer Amoena bras in  band sizes from 32 to  46 and up  to an I cup in select styles; prices  range from $66.00 to  $77.00.   “Fullbeauty.com offers true innovation in  design and function and  a  no-compromise shopping experience,” said  Michele Crawbuck, Vice  President  and Brand Manager, fullbeauty.com.”

I loved the sound of the Comfort+ technology, so I contacted one of their corporate communications managers to ask if I could review and then giveaway one of their bras.  And they agreed!  (Which just goes to show that sometimes all you need to do is ASK).

The Review
They gave me a variety of choices, and I selected the bra you’ll see in the following photos.  The one thing I was worried about was support, since it was a wireless bra, but I am so happy to report that this bra absolutely supported me through a long workday and into the evening.  I “test drove” the bra 3 times before writing this review, and I loved it each and every time.  In fact, I have it on today.

20120309-075543.jpg

Beautiful, deep purple color with a nice amount of lace. The great thing is, the lace doesn't show through shirts, even tshirts.

The bra is full-coverage, which I love, but also really pretty.  I debated whether or not to take a photo of myself in the bra, but erred on the side of modesty, so you’ll just have to imagine from my descriptions.  The bra has slightly padded, comfortable straps that stay where they should but feel light and weightless.  I appreciate the fact that once I have the bra on, it stays put – no pulling or tugging needed.  As I said, it’s wireless, so it’s ultra comfortable, with nothing pointing out or pinching.  And it does an amazing job of supporting me, which is no small feat.  In fact, it gives me a nice lift, and makes the cleavage look appealing at the same time.

An explanation of the benefits of Comfort+.

I’m not sure about you, but I can tell you that I usually perspire under the cups of a bra, but when I wear this Mia  by Amoena bra, I didn’t at all.  That Comfort+ really works!

20120309-075603.jpg

A very fair price for a bra that is this comfortable and easy to wear. It also washes really nicely.

20120309-075608.jpg

A view of the inside of the bra with the Comfort+ band.

All in all, I can’t recommend this bra highly enough.  I’m definitely going to buy more, and I wanted to make sure that at least one of you would also have an opportunity to try this bra for yourself.

This week has been a bit cold and dreary around here, so I thought some bold color and a pop of floral would be the perfect way to brighten things up. I could see myself wearing this cute dress to a daytime wedding or other party, on a first date, to brunch, or just for a fun afternoon out with the girls. It makes me smile when I see it, which is the way clothes should make you feel, right?

Today’s Goal Style is all about two things – working out and Lululemon.  For me, being able to fit in Lululemon will be a major milestone.  Paying for it will be something else, but I digress.  Since this week my  focus has been on getting workouts in,  thought a Friday fashion about workout clothes was appropriate.

One thing I hadn’t realized before was just how boring the color choices at Lululemon are.  At least online.  Everything was muted – gray, black, pastels.  Bold, vibrant colors were few and far between.  And hey, I know black is slimming, but I’m the kind of girl who needs some color in her life, too. Which is why I was so happy when I found that one, bolder pink jacket.

I put a few different looks together in this set.  One with more fitted pants, which scare me, but this is Goal Style, and by the time I’m at goal, maybe those tighter pants won’t be as scary.  And then the other set are a pair of crops that I know would fit me well.  I included other views of the pants to give an idea of the fit.  Also, I only chose crops because with my short legs, I have to, the others would just be too long.

Where is (or will be) your favorite store to splurge on workout wear?

If you look on my Stats page, you’ll notice that my ultimate reward for myself once I get to goal weight is an entire outfit from Anthrologogie.   So of course I’ve been spending more and more time on their website to see the types of outfits I’d put together if I were able to shop there now.  The perfect setting for this week’s Goal Style.

The outfit itself is something that I could see myself wearing to work or on the weekends.  It seems cute and casual, yet put together.  I love the retro feel of the skirt and the unexpected pairing of turquoise and brown (although I love those two colors together).  And I love a wedge, especially because I’m a shorty and can use all the height I can get.  Wedges let me appear taller, yet remain comfortable.

This week’s featured Goal Style is centered completely around the bag that I found at Anthropologie.  I love it.  If I were Rachel Zoe, I’d die for it.  I like it so much that I’m going to save up for it and buy it.  The rest of the outfit just came together as things that would look good with the bag.

Although I do have to give a huge nod to the shoes, too.  They’re awesome and weird and flat out A-mazing.  Another little something that I’d like to save up for, but they’re probably something better left for my goal weight.  I can’t image that my chubby feet would fit well in them right now. But that’s why this is “goal” style. Inspiration for the future.

I do love the shirt, too.  It’s unique and different, yet still basic black.  I could be dressed up or down.  And the jeans? Those just look really comfy.  Because I know one thing about my body and that’s that my thighs and my butt aren’t going anywhere, even at  goal.  There will always be lots of junk in this trunk, and that’s okay, because I love my curves.   So, I’m never going to be squeezing into skinny jeans, and that suits me fine, because I like the look of a wider-cut jean on me anyway.

This outfit just makes me want summer to get here already!! Although, I shouldn’t complain, because we’ve been having pretty nice weather here lately.

This week I only have two outfits to share. I’ve been having a great time this week at home – organizing, working out, relaxing, and just hanging out. No fancy fashion required.

Tuesday, December 27th – I was going to a movie with a friend, and I wanted something that would look nice, but would be comfortable to sit in a movie theatre seat for 2+ hours. Before I get to the outfit, I wanted to focus on the hair/makeup. I usually use a quick, cat’s eye swoop of black liquid liner. It’s easy, and it’s my signature. But since I had the time on Tuesday, evening, I broke out my Ready Eyeshadows Palette in Playlist from Bare Escentuals and mixed a few browns together. And then I did something I never do – I put eyeliner on the bottom lid. I usually avoid this because the cat’s eye looks better without anything on the bottom and somewhere along the way someone told me that it made my eyes look smaller. But I kind of like the change. Using shadows and pencil liner took WAY more time than I am used to, but it was fun to try.

I had to show the little afro puff I was rocking that night as well.

And now for the outfit:

Wednesday, December 28th – Right before aqua aerobics class. Normally I would never capture my aqua class clothes on film, but I wanted to show the gloves and shoes off. Mind you, I don’t wear terrycloth capri sweats in the pool but there was simply no way in hell I was going to take a photo of me in the bathing suit. It’s under there, believe you me. You can see the top of the bathing suit, which I covered with a cardigan when I was in public, for modesty’s sake and because it is wintertime, even in the Bay Area.

I won’t even ask which outfit is your favorite this week.

From here on out, I think I’m going to scale back the OOTW posts, because I am running out of new looks. I mean, I can go a couple of months without repeating tops, but now it’s getting to the point that I’ll be repeating outfits. And no one wants to see the same old thing, I’m sure. So if I happen to put together a fun, new look, I’ll share it, but other than that I won’t be resuming these posts regularly until I go down in sizes and need to buy new clothes!

This week, the temps were chilly in the mornings (37 degrees or so is COLD around here) and the evenings, but the days were clear, sunny, and gorgeous with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s.  Beautiful winter weather.

Monday, December 5th: I was freezing, so I decided to go with a chunky, cable-knit scarf to spice up basic black and white.  Later in the morning I asked one of my famously fashionable students to “do something with the scarf” and she secured it around my neck in a much more flattering way than you see here.

Tuesday, December 6th: I’m wearing the outfit I wore on Thanksgiving, only changing the look up this time with a side pony.  Finally, my hair is getting long enough for me to do styles like this!  My shorter hair was sassy, for a while, but it got really monotonous in terms of doing different things with it.  Plus, with a face as full as mine, I like having the longer hair to balance my appearance out.

This is Sofi's spot every morning as I get ready. Sorry it's blurry.

Wednesday, December 7th: This is the outfit I wore in my Christmas card photo, and the one that I may where on Christmas Day.  I’d told you last week how much I love the Fair Isle print, and this sweater is another example of why.  When I wore it, one of my students told me I looked like Christmas, which was so cute.  This sweater makes me feel very wintery and warm.  I liked the way the red shoes carried out the red theme, but I wasn’t sure if they were too much.  What do you think?
