Happy Monday! Today has actually been a pretty easy transition back to the “real world” after having the week off for spring break.  As much as I hate standardized testing, it’s come in handy that we started it this week in my English classes – it makes for a smoother entry into the work week.   Because I wasn’t ready to leave Hawaii behind just quite yet, I decided to go Aloha style for my OOTD (you might’ve seen this already on Instagram, if you follow me):

For the months of March and April, FMM is moving locations.  Sarah over at Losing Weight and Having Fun is hosting FMM for the time being, and I’m excited to discover her blog and meet a bunch of new bloggers.

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section at: Losing Weight and Having Fun so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

FMM: Favorite things

1. Favorite color? (be specific… what shade of blue/green/red etc)

hot pink  As much as I’m drawn to dark colors, my absolute favorite color is hot pink.  I’d love to get my Beetle convertible painted this color someday.

2. Favorite piece of clothing you own? I’ve been loving skirts and dresses lately, because I can wear them a lot longer than I can pants as I lose weight.  I guess I’d say my Michael Kors skirt is my favorite, because it’s so versatile. I can wear it with sweaters, tshirts, or tanks and it can change the look completely.

3. Favorite smartphone app? I’d have to say MyFitnessPal, because I love how easy it makes logging all my food, water, and exercise.  Plus, I get so much inspiration and support from all my friends on there – I go to it multiple times a day.  If you’re on MFP, too, send me a note and add me, if you’d like.

4. Favorite city? I’d have to say San Francisco.  There’s something for everyone there – the beach, art, shopping, amazing food, nightlife, and outdoors activities.  Plus, the city itself is just so beautiful.

The Changing Light  by Lawrence Ferlinghetti (one of my favorite poets, one of the original Beat Poets, poet laureate of SF, and owner of City Lights Bookstore):

The changing light

            at San Francisco

is none of your East Coast light

           none of your

                   pearly light of Paris

The light of San Francisco

             is a sea light

                       an island light

And the light of fog

        blanketing the hills

    drifting in at night

           through the Golden Gate

to lie on the city at dawn

And then the halcyon late mornings

    after the fog burns off

and the sun paints white houses

with the sea light of Greece

      with sharp clean shadows

       making the town look like

                             it had just been painted

But the wind comes up at four o’clock

                                    sweeping the hills

And then the veil of light of early evening

And then another scrim

           when the new night fog

                            floats in

And in that vale of light

                   the city drifts

                           anchorless upon the ocean

5. Favorite strength training exercise? I’ve mentioned it before, but since mid January I’ve been doing the Tone It Up exercises, and I absolutely love them.  They use your own body weight, along with small dumbbells or kettlebells to tone.  The difference I see in my body is noticeable.  Plus, the routines are so fun, and the community is really supportive.

6. Favorite vegetable?  This is like asking me my favorite book – I love so many that it’s difficult to choose just one.  Maybe zucchini because there’s so much you can do with them – make “zoodles,” stuff them, bake them, sauté  them, make zucchini fries, steam them, or have them raw with a crudité.

7. Favorite hair product? (shampoo, styling, conditioner etc) I’ve been using Pureology, and I love the way that it keeps my color fresh, but I’ve been noticing that my hair is drier since I’ve started using it.  I’ve been using Redken’s Smooth Lock, too, so I’m not sure if it’s the shampoo/conditioner or the styling product that is drying it out.  Either way, I think I need to make a change and see if it helps. On a recent trip to Dry  Bar to get my hair blown out, I was amazed at how shiny my hair looked.  I love how their products smell, so I’m thinking about trying their shampoo, conditioner, and styling products for a bit to see if they work better for me.

8. Favorite animal? Is there any question that I’m going to say dogs?

9. Favorite superhero?

bilbl_super Super Bellina

Oh, did you mean a comic book superhero?   Then I’d have to say Wonder Woman, I guess.  🙂

10. Favorite recipe? (share the details with us)

A recipe I make again and again, in summer and winter is my version of Hungry Girl’s 10-Alarm Crockpot Turkey Chili.  It’s hearty, satisfying, delicious, easy to prepare, and has great nutritional stats.

Now it’s your turn to answer the questions!   And also be sure to go back to Sarah’s blog and leave a link to your FMM post in the comments!  I really encourage you to comment on as many people’s posts as you can – I’ve met some fantastic people through FMM.  You never know who you’ll meet today.

reverb13-blog-button Throughout the month of December, I’ll be participating in #reverb13: Reverb is a way to reflect on the past year and project into the next year with a prompt a day for 31 days.  December is the perfect time to reflect on 2013 and start to create intentions for 2014.

Day 13: Favorite Things
Give us a list of your favorite things from 2013.  Could be material items, food, people, anything!

You guys already know how much my family, friends, and Sofi mean to me, so my list of favorite things is going to consist of items I loved in 2013:

  • Bath & Body Works shower gels and lotions.  I’ve loved their products for years, but because of my budget had done without them for a couple of years. This year I decided that these were the sorts of simple daily pleasures that I should enjoy. My favorite scents are Beautiful Day and Sweet Pea.
  •  1888939-p-MULTIVIEWAsics Gel Blurs. They’re the most comfortable sneakers, and have been great in helping me heal from my plantar fasciitis.  I have them in this pair of fun colors and another in black & white.
  • Mac Foundation.  I re-discovered Mac this summer, after being dissatisfied with Bare Minerals Ready formulation.  I started with the Mineralized skinfinish, which I really like, especially when coupled with the Prep + Prime BB.  I always thought Mac was too thick/too heavy, but they have so many different formulas now that there really is something for everyone.  My skin does well with it, too, which is nice.
  • Celebrate Vitamins have been my saving grace.  Even pre-op, my stomach was really sensitive to taking vitamins, and I’d always get nauseous, even with food.  The Celebrate chewables taste like Flinstones and go down really easily.  Plus, my doctor said she thinks they’re a really high quality vitamin for WLS patients.
  • Somersaults snacks are a new favorite.  If you get the chance to try them, you should.
  • logoMy RockMyRun mixes.  I have mentioned them many time before, but I can’t recommend the site highly enough.  All different genres, bpms, and lengths.  I just downloaded a new one today, and I can’t wait to try it. The music definitely helps me make it through tough workouts.
  • Big Train Mocha Fit Frappe has been my breakfast of choice since the summer.  In the warmer months, I mix it with Isopure chocolate protein powder and almond milk and make a shake that keeps me all morning long. Now that the weather has turned so chilly, I mix it into my morning coffee.
  • And speaking of coffee, I’m absolutely in love with my Keurig and my Kcups.  Now that I’ve cut back dramatically on my coffee intake, they’re the perfect amount.
  • 1470344_10151713862350426_7957064_n My Victoria’s Secret Boyfriend pants are so cozy and cuddly, and the fact that I wear them (the XLs are actually too big!) are like a badge of honor to me.

What are some of your favorite things in 2013? Let me know in the comments.

I’d completely forgotten that today was Monday (I mean, I knew it in the back of my head, but it feels so much like a Sunday, doesn’t it?).  Anyway, Mondays mean it’s time for Friend Makin’ Mondays!!  Kenlie skipped the post last week, which makes this week’s all the more fun.

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

FMM:  Favorite Things

1) What is your favorite food? My favorite food is Italian, and since that’s also my culture, I usually put an Italian twist on many of the things I make.  Like using olive oil as my “fat” of choice.  Or sprinkling  parmigiano reggiano on more than just pasta.  It doesn’t mean I eat a lot of pasta, because I don’t.  Sure, I love a nice bowl now and then, but Italian food encompasses so many other menu items – seafood, salads, meats, veggies – I love the variety.  Besides Italian, I’d say  that sushi is a food that I eat as a treat about once a month or so.

2) What is your favorite childhood memory? There are so many, but I think some of my favorite memories happened in our kitchen.  My sister and I used to do our homework on the kitchen counter, sitting on stools while my mom made dinner.  There, we’d study, quiz each other, catch up on the day’s events, and just hang out.  And of course the kitchen is also where we ate dinner – in the dining area – where we’d share more stories, enjoy great food, and be together.  The kitchen is where all the holidays meals were made, where all the famous cookies and cakes were baked, and even where hearts were mended when one of our friends or boyfriends had broken them.

3) What is your favorite way to burn calories? I don’t have just one.  I love swimming, biking,  and walking if the weather is nice outside.  At the gym my go-to machine is the elliptical, but I also love attending the group exercise classes like kick boxing and Zumba.  Variety is the spice of life for me in terms of exercise; otherwise I get bored and make excuses not to go.

4) What is your favorite mode of technological communication? Phone? Text? E-mail? Tweets? This is really dependent on whom I’m talking to and what I need to let them know.  I love my blog to get my ideas out and to interact with all of you.  I love texting for quick questions.  Email is a great way to catch up with my friends who live across the country.  And the phone is the way that I get my deep feelings out to friends and family.  It’s great to have all the options available at any given moment.

5) Who is your favorite actor/actress? I love Selma Hayak’s looks.  She’s gorgeous and the body!!  She’s definitely my inspiration.  Johnny Depp has been my sweetheart since high school, and I can’t imagine not looking into those brown eyes and not swooning.

6) What is your favorite lip color? I like bold lips, which is why I’m so glad that lipstick is making a comeback.  Glosses are fine for summer, but lipstick helps completely the face.  I’m loving the Pretty Amazing Lipcolor from Bare Escentuals.  And my favorite color of the moment is Bravado. (Although I have Witty, Confidence, and Strength, too).

7) Who is your favorite historical figure? John F. Kennedy – he inspired a generation.

8) Who is your favorite athlete?  Jerry Rice. I’m a huge football fan and the 49ers are my team.  In the 80s they were a dynasty.  Jerry Rice is the greatest wide receiver of all time, bar none.  I’ve met him several times in person, and he’s just a sweet, nice guy.

9) What is your favorite TV network? Bravo.  I am a self-admitted Real Housewives, Project Runway, and Flipping Out fanatic.  I also love HBO – True Blood, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Boardwalk Empire, and Entourage.  As well as Showtime – The Big C, Dexter, and Weeds.  Plus a few other shows sprinkled among other networks.  The bottom line is that I watch entirely too much TV.

10) What is your favorite site on the web? This one?!  Oh, you mean besides MY blog?  Oh, well then, Facebook, LoseIt, Twitter, Sephora, Etsy, Pinterest, and Google.

Now it’s your turn to answer!  Don’t forget to go back to Kenlie’s blog and link up!
