Happy Monday, Everyone! I’ve had a fantastic weekend!  I got to see friends, spend time with family, and enjoy what life is really about.  Today it’s all about nose to the grindstone and getting lots of grading done.  Wish me luck!  Before I get into all of those papers, though, I thought I’d participate in this week’s FMM.

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

FMM: What’s in Your Fridge?

1. List a few common items that can always be found in your fridge.  Veggies, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese sticks, salad dressings, mustards, sauces, coffee creamer, and water (sparkling and flat).
2. What kind of milk do you drink? I don’t drink milk, and rarely keep it in the house.  I really only buy it if I’m making a recipe that calls for it.
3. Do you prefer fresh or frozen vegetables?  I never buy frozen vegetables.  Living in California, I have access to fresh vegetables year round. I eat seasonally so that I can eat fresh veggies (and fruit) throughout the year.
4. What do you currently have to drink in the fridge? Water, sparkling water.  Since I’m on Jenny Craig, and I live by myself, I have the luxury of not keeping things that I don’t need in the fridge.

5. How often do you clean out your refrigerator? I keep it clean and organized every week, but truly deep cleaning where I take out the shelves and wash the bins happens about once every month or so.

6. What’s the healthiest thing in it right now? Everything in my fridge is healthy. See #4.
7. What’s the most unhealthy thing in it right now? Nothing is unhealthy. See #4.

8. What do you wish you had in it that you don’t have now? I have everything I need for my current diet.

9. How often do you shop for groceries? I shop about once a week.

10. What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge right now? I don’t think anything I have in there is weird, although maybe some of the veggies would seem weird to some – red kale, rainbow chard, etc.

Bonus:  If you could choose one thing to put in the fridge and make it calorie-free what would it be? White wine. It’s been a couple of months since I’ve had a nice glass of chardonnay or pinot grigio, and I am looking forward to Thanksgiving for that reason.  (I’ve  decided that I’m going to go sensibly off Jenny Craig on Thanksgiving).

Now it’s your turn to share. Don’t forget to go back to Kenlie’s blog to link up in the comments!

Happy Monday, Everyone! For the first time in three weeks, I’m actually at work on a Monday. Go figure! But since I had to be at school until 9:30pm on Friday night to chaperone a play, only to turn around and be back at 7:15am on Saturday to proctor the SAT, I think taking the last couple of Mondays off was justified. Plus, October is a l-o-n-g month with no holidays, so most teachers take a few days here and there to break it up a bit.

FMM: Winning the Lottery

What’s the first thing you would do for yourself if you won 100 million dollars? Note: this question is specifically for you…what would you do for fun after the family and the bills and the obvious stuff was taken care of?

OMG! Kenlie, I am so glad that you posted this fun topic. With budget cuts in an already meager teacher’s salary, I feel like I never have enough money. Just last week, our local ABC station was running a contest to win $49,000 (tied to the Thursday Night Football game the 49ers played). Unfortunately, I didn’t win. But here’s a chance to dream a little bit.

In no particular order….

I’d buy a house for myself. In fact, I might even buy the duplex that my sister and I live in. I don’t need some McMansion, and I abhor moving, so I’d be very comfortable living here for the foreeseable future. It would be nice, though, not to have to worry about rent/mortgage payments.

After paying off my VW Convertible Beetle, I’d buy a few more cars.

First, I’d get a Lexus RX so that I could use it for trips skiing (which I’ve never done, but would love to try) and to cart my bike here and there on the weekends. I like this rich bronze color because it’s so unusual.

I’d also want to buy a 1964 Dodge Dart. My mom had one when I was little, and I loved that car. Plus, it would be such a cool car to drive around in once in a while. (When weather wasn’t a factor).

Moving past cars, I’d purchase tons of clothes from Anthropologie, Nordstrom, Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic, etc. A few items I’d pick up…

Of course I’d buy all sorts of beautiful, ridiculous shoes.

Who am I really kidding? More like this:

I’d also like to buy some signature jewelry from Cartier or Tiffany.

And I’d travel…

It would be so fun to be able to buy anything I want, anytime I want. To go wherever my heart desired, by whatever means I felt like. The security of not worrying about money and being able to enjoy my family and friends until the end of my days. Ahhhhhh….it’s fun to dream, isn’t it?

What would you spend your money on???

Happy Monday, Everyone! Another Monday that I’m playing hookie – two Mondays in a row!  I’d scheduled the day off today weeks ago when I looked at my calendar.  I have a supervision duty on Friday night from 6:30pm-9:30pm and then I have to turn around and be at school at 7:30am on Saturday morning to proctor the PSAT, and I realized that next weekend is going to fly by, so I might as well extend this weekend.  The plans for today are to get some household chores done, make a long phone call to my uncle who lives in Michigan, read, blog, and work on some curriculum planning.  I’m also planning on going on a nice long bike ride once the sun finally breaks through this morning fog that we have going on today.

FMM: Quick and Random

1. Choose three songs that would be on the soundtrack of your life.  These Are Days by 10,000 Maniacs, In Between Days by The Cure, and There’s a Girl by The Ditty Bops.

2. Share the details of one project that you’re currently working on.

For work, I’m designing curriculum units on The American Romantics: Light Romanticism, Transcendentalism, and Dark Romanticism.  Then we’ll move into Realism before the end of the semester.  I’ve covered these literary periods in the past, but I’m redesigning the units by focusing on stories rather than novels, covering each movement in more depth.  Since I’m using entirely different literature than I have in the past, it means creating new assignments, essay prompts, quizzes, and a semester final.  It’s a lot of work, but I love the challenge because it keeps things fresh, which isn’t easy to do after 13 years of teaching American Literature.

At home, I just finished decorating for Halloween and Fall (although more Fall will come into play once Halloween is over).  My other mini project is to make my own version of these Motivation Marbles that I found on Pinterest.  I’ll definitely post about it when I’ve made them.

3. If you could learn to do one thing overnight what would it be? I’m taking my cue from Kenlie and I’ll say that I’d love to know how to speak Italian fluently.

4. If you could be a fictional character which one would you be?  Wow, this is a hard one for me because I have so many characters swirling in my English teacher’s brain.  Most of the literary characters I know lead lives that end sadly, so I’ll choose Samantha Baker, who is Molly Ringwald’s character in Sixteen Candles.  Who doesn’t want to kiss Jake Ryan?!

5. What’s your favorite thing about the month of October?  I love the layered clothing, the crisp mornings and chilly evenings, and the fact that The Holidays are more than a month away.  Don’t get me wrong, I love The Holidays, but life gets really hectic during that season, so it’s nice to enjoy the calm that comes with October.

6. Share one TV show that you’re embarrassed to admit you watch.  I’m not really embarrassed by this, but I do watch every Real Housewives franchise.

7. Name one friend that you’re thankful to have in your life today.  I am immensely thankful that I have ScaleWarfare in my life.  She is one of my best friends, a huge support, and an amazing person.  She’s making some major life changes, and I am so proud of her for making sure her life is as healthy as possible in every aspect.

8. What was the most relaxing part of your weekend?  I was able to spend quite a bit of time reading, which is always really relaxing for me.  I just finished reading Jane Vows Vengeance by Michael Thomas Ford and I’m currently reading The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher.

9. Do you like to dance?  I love dancing!  In fact, yesterday my 5-year-old niece and I held a mini dance party as we played Wii Just Dance for about 30 minutes.

10.  Share one thing that you’re looking forward to before the end of the year.  I’m looking forward to meeting my mini weight loss goal before the end of 2012. It has been my main focus of the year, and it will be such an accomplishment when I meet the goal.

Happy Monday, Everyone! A special Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Canadian friends! Today I decided it was time to take a “mental health” day off of work. Plus, one of my former colleagues, who’s now a globe-trotting world traveler, is in town and was looking for substitute jobs, so I gladly gave her one. Win win. My plans include a bit of blogging (writing and reading – I’m so behind!), catching up on household chores, Zumba at noon (a time I’m never able to get to normally), some curriculum planning, and a long walk with Ani, her dog Riley, and of course Sofi in The Rose Garden.

FMM: Inside My Home

1. Do you live in an apartment/condo, townhouse or house? A duplex. I’m so lucky that my sister and my nieces live on the other side.
2. What is your home’s coolest feature? Besides the fact that I get to live next door to my sister, yet we can each retain our own privacy, I’d have to say it’s the fact that I have very large rooms.  The other amazing feature of my house is the backyard – I love that Sofi has a good amount of room to frolic and play while I’m at work.
3. Do you enjoy DIY projects? If so, what are you working on now? I’m not a huge DIY person. I can do small crafts, and I can putter around in the garden a bit, but nothing major. Whenever I need any sort of home improvement help, I call my dad, who is an amazing handyman. He can do ANYthing – tile work, flooring, plumbing, electrical, installation of lights, fans, painting, gardening, general at-home assembly stuff, etc. He learned all of it from my grandfather, and put it to use around our house, as well as in the summers (he was a teacher, too), when he earned money as a handyman for friends and family. His work was so good that he was always booked solid with people clamoring for an appointment. Sometimes he’d have to work during Winter Break or Spring Break, just to accommodate them. I’m really lucky that he only charges me in hugs and kisses!
4. When using the dishwasher do you use powder detergent or liquid? I use the Cascade Complete pods, which have a combo of powder and liquid. I love that it’s all pre-measured and ready to go.

20121008-080637.jpg

5. Do you have a TV in your bedroom? No. I like to read before bed, and if I’m really desperate to watch a show while I’m snuggled under the covers, I can always bring my laptop into my room.
6. Is your range gas or electric? Electric. I’ve had both, and I know most great chefs prefer gas, but I’m ok with either.
7. How often do you sweep/mop/vacuum? I use an electric broom on my bamboo floors (dining room, living room, and hallways) and kitchen tile and bathroom(s) tile several times a week. I use Bona to mop those surfaces about once every two weeks. I vacuum my bedroom (the only place I have carpet) about once a week. Having clean floors is so important to me!
8. What is your favorite place to shop for home furniture and accents? Just like Kenlie, I have a lot of places that I look for items for my home. Most of my furniture has come from Z Gallerie and Cost Plus World Market. My home accents have come from both of those stores, as well as Pier 1, Kohl’s, and smaller local stores.
9. Do you decorate for holidays? Yes. I begin with Halloween, then fall/Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I think this is why I always spend money on home decor in January – once all the trimmings from Christmas are put away, the house just looks so plain.
10. If you could have HGTV come in and redo one room in your home which room would you choose? I love the way that my house looks now, so I think I’d have them work on my 2nd bedroom, which I’d love to have become a home gym/office. All I have in there right now is my bookcase, but I’d love to really fix it up. (I do have an Aerobed in the closet for any visitors who might want to stay over).

Happy Monday, Everyone! This is definitely a case of better late than never, as it’s 9:19pm as I type this. I spent today as Dean for the Day at school, which meant my entire day (schedule and workload) was turned upside down. It was an honor to be asked to do it, and I enjoyed the experience, but I also confirmed that I am meant to teach. I enjoy helping kids improve their knowledge and skills and I’m way too much of a control freak to leave my schedule as loose as the deans need to.

FMM: Fall Favorites

1. What is your favorite thing about this time of year? I love that the mornings are cool and crisp, the days are sunny, and the evenings are chilly enough for a quilt. I love the versatility of the clothes, too. I can wear capris and light sweaters and lots of layers.

2. What do you hope to do again before Summer is officially over? I agree with Kenlie – I’d like to get in some more swimming sessions. In fact, I think I’m going to do that for tomorrow’s workout. The weather has been quite warm lately, so it would be ideal.

3. When did you last go on a hay ride? I’ve never been on a hay ride. I don’t think it’s something we really do in the Bay Area, although I’m sure there are places that offer them.

4. What is your favorite pumpkin dish? My mom makes a Rachel Ray pasta, sausage, sage, and pumpkin dish that is A-mazing. We have it as a side on Thanksgiving.

5. Do you decorate your home for fall? Yes. First I decorate for Halloween throughout the month of October, and then as soon as November hits, I put out the fall wreath. Next year I want to get something to put up on my front door for Back to School; some sort of wreath with apples or something.  I love that the pumpkins can do double duty. Here are some of the decorations I use around the house:

20120924-215102.jpg

20120924-215313.jpg

6. Do you have any hobbies that are seasonally specific? If so, what are they? I really want to get better at crocheting, and the cooler weather lends itself to practicing often. My goal is to make several baby blankets to donate.

7. Apple cider or hot chocolate? I’d prefer to have a Starbucks salted caramel mocha (only in moderation) or a nonfat pumpkin spice latte.

8. Are you a fan of football? If so, who is your team? I absolutely LOVE the San Francisco 49ers.

9. Share a fond Fall memory. I love going to the pumpkin patch in Half Moon Bay to select fun, interesting pumpkins.

10. It’s not Fall until…my friends back east start posting beautiful fall foliage photos on FB. (Like that alliteration?)

FMM: Blog Stuff

Happy Monday, Everyone!  I had a fantastic weekend.  Saturday I spent a few hours at a fun dog-centric festival known as Bark in the Park.  My friend Ani, her dog Riley, and Sofi joined me, and we were all super tired by the end of it.  Lots of samples of new food, toys, and other fun items filled my festival bag, which is always fun.  Sunday I did a bit of shopping, a few household chores, and basically got ready for the week.  I’m feeling very organized, which always makes me feel  great.

1.  Have you ever met anyone through your blog that led to an in-person friendship/relationship? BeautyJunkie824 and I have met in person, since we live about 30 minutes apart.  And even though we haven’t met in person since we live across the country from each other, Scale Warfare and I  definitely have an amazing friendship IRL.  There are several other bloggers whom I keep up with and care about, too.

2.  Most bloggers have a specific niche.  What would you discuss if it didn’t seem inappropriate on your blog? I really don’t hold back on my blog, since I write it for me.  Anything goes.  Although I probably wouldn’t keep this a semi-anonymous blog if I wasn’t a teacher, which would be nice.

3. If you could meet three bloggers, who would they be? Well, of course I’d love to meet Kenlie, but besides her, I’d have to say Scale Warfare, Carina, and Amber.

4. If you had to choose between Facebook or Twitter which one would you choose?  FB for sure.  I’m not really on Twitter as much.

5. Do you vlog (video blog?) Yes, I have, although not as often as I should.  I forget to do it.  Plus, editing takes so long.  Writing a blog is so much easier for me, as strange as that may sound.  But I should get back to making weekly or bi-weekly blogs.

6. How many blogs do you read on an average day? I’m so far behind in my blog reading, it’s awful.  I have no time during the work day to read blogs (unless I squeeze it in at lunch).  Still, I could easily read blogs while the TV is on later at night.  I’m going to try to spend an hour a day going through my Google Reader.  As to how many, the blogs in my blogroll are the ones I’m reading regularly.

7.  What is the coolest thing that you’ve seen online recently? I mentioned this in a WIAW post recently: ZipList is a pretty cool site/app for people who enjoy cooking.

8. If you gave your blog a new name what would it be? At one point this blog was called “Bella in LapBandLand” when I was going to get the lap band, but I decided not to renew the url because it was so limiting. I like Bella on the Beach because it’s about more than just weight loss; it’s about my life.

9. Have you ever attended a blog conference like Fitbloggin?  If not, would you? I haven’t attended any sort of blog conference, but I would be open to going in the future.  It always boils down to time and money, right?

10. In the past I have asked why you blog.  Now I want to know why you read blogs?  What do you take from it? I read blogs for inspiration, motivation, and to get others’ experiences.  Reading about other people’s lives helps me learn more about my own.  I think you can get so much by learning about the lives of others.

Now it’s your turn to share. Don’t forget to go back to Kenlie’s blog to link up in the comments!

Happy Monday, Everyone!  Not only was the weekend a whirlwind, but so was today.  My priorities have been fitting in cooking healthy meals and adding intensity to my workouts, besides those little things called making a living and living a life, so I know you guys will forgive me for such a late post.  I hope you’re all doing really well.

FMM: Have You Ever?

1. Jumped out of an airplane?  No, but I will absolutely go sky diving when I hit my goal weight.  At my current weight, I don’t think they’d have a suit big enough for me/it would be unsafe for the person riding tandem.

2. Lived alone?  I’ve lived alone most of my adulthood, and I prefer it this way (until a significant other shows up, perhaps).

3. Met a celebrity? Yes, I’ve met some local celebs, including Jerry Yang of Yahoo, but my most memorable celeb meeting (at the time) was when I met Antonio Sabato Jr. when he was Jaggar on General Hospital.  *Sigh*  I had a HUGE crush on him at the time, and when I met him he actually commented about how my (real) name is so Italian.  (One of the few times I have ever blushed).

4. Said something to someone that you immediately regret saying? Almost daily.  I have a quick mind and a bigger mouth, so this happens all the time.  It’s one of the things that I’m working on.

5. Had a manicure/pedicure? I used to go bi-monthly or monthly, but ever since budget cuts, these have become a treat.  So I’ve learned to do pretty decent at-home versions.

6.  Gotten a hickey?  Of course – high school.

7. Owned a pet that was not a dog or a cat?  I had fish once.

8. Been outside of your home country?  I’ve been to Mexico, Italy, Spain, and Jamaica.

9. Kissed your best friend? Only on the cheek.  Well, unless I count when I considered a boyfriend my best friend, which only really happened once in my life.

10. Eaten food that fell on the floor?  Not often, but I have been known to call the 5-Second Rule.

11. Met someone online? Yes.  Oh, man, could I write a book about online personals in the early days.  Hey….maybe I will.  Nothing as fancy as Match.com or eHarmony, we’re talking early Yahoo Personals and Craigslist.

12. Been on TV? Not that I know of.

13. Had braces?  For two grueling years, way before “clear” braces an Invisalign.  But I have beautiful, straight teeth now. Thanks Mom and Daddy!

14. Gone skinny dipping?  Yes, in my late-30s with someone I had a HUGE crush on.

15. Been to the opera? Not yet.

16. Been caught making out by a policeman?  Yes.  Very embarrassing. Ah, my early twenties were fun!!

17. Sung in public? Yes, I’ve done my fair share of karaoke.

18. Handed out candy on Halloween? Almost every year.  Although ever since I’ve had a dog, I don’t.

19. Been snowed in? Never.  I’ve actually only been in the snow once in my life.

20. Fallen in front of other people? Ugh.  I’ve fallen many, many times.  The worst was in the parking lot at school, in front of a bunch of students.  So, so embarrassing.

21. Cheated on a test? Never.  I’d much rather retain my integrity and get a low score than be a cheater.

22. Regretted saying “I love you” to someone?  I’ve never regretted saying it, but looking back, I regret falling in love with one person.

23. Finished a meal in a restaurant and realized that you didn’t have your wallet? No washing dishes for me.

24. Shot a gun? Nope.  I’d be interested in going to a shooting range, just to see how good a shot I am.  But I know I’ll never own a gun myself.

25. Heard a song that was written for (or about) you? Music is a huge part of my life, so lots of songs seem as though they were written for me.  I’ve never had a real song written just for me, but I have had several mix tapes/CDs made for me ala High Fidelity – does that count?

Happy Monday, Everyone!  I hope this post finds you well.  My thoughts are with everyone in New Orleans (Kenlie!!) and the surrounding area.  Hearing about Isaac’s wrath makes me feel lucky that I live in the Bay Area, where the biggest weather complaint we have is that it’s too hot when it hits the 90s or that it’s so foggy today or that we’ve had 3 consecutive days of rain. We’re weather whiners here, I admit it.  My area has  amazing climate, and I should count my lucky stars that I am able to live here.   I’m also thinking of the first day of school in Perry Hall, MD (outside of Baltimore), where earlier today a student gunman opened fire, but was subdued by a quick-thinking teacher who wrestled him to the ground.  One student has been critically wounded.  It could have been much worse, to be sure, but it makes me wonder why it happened at all.  Scary!

FMM: Tech Questions

1. PC or Mac? Mac all the way.  I currently have a 2006 MacBookPro that is alive and kicking.  I purchased a new operating system (Snow Leopard) a couple of years ago, which made it as good as new.  Gotta love that about Apples.  And I also have an iPhone.

2. When did you get your first computer?  We had a computer at home from the time I was in 6th or 7th grade.  My first personal computer would have been when I moved out of my parents’ house when I was 24.

3. Do you use cable, DSL or something else?  I have Comcast/Xfinity.

4. When choosing a laptop, do you think it’s more important to choose the fastest one, or the lightest one?  This really depends on what you’re using it for.  For me, I’m not doing a bunch of graphic design, although I do have the Adobe Suite of products, so I would look for a lighter laptop.

5. What kind of cell phone do you own?  Do you like it? I have an iPhone and I LOVE it.  I would be lost without it.  I’m addicted.

6. How do you carry your laptop when you travel?  I have a Timbuk2 backpack that has a special slot for the laptop,it is really well padded, and offers great protection. It serves its purpose, but I would love to get something a bit more stylish, like this one from Kailo Chic:

(Hmmm, I think I found something for my Christmas list).

7. How many e-mails do you send on an average day? Between work and home, I send anywhere from 10-30 emails on a daily basis.

8. Do you ever blog using your iPad or similar tablet? I don’t have an iPad or tablet, and I guess in a pinch I would.  I’ve used my iPhone to blog before.  Since I usually have such long posts, I prefer to type on a standard keyboard.

9. What do you use more often – a desktop or a laptop? At work I have a desktop PC, which is old and clunky, but at home I have the Mac.  I guess I’d say I use a laptop more.

10.  As a blogger, are there other gadgets that you need to get the job done?  If so, what are they?  I agree with Kenlie’s response, I use lots of photos on my blog that I take with my iPhone.

Happy Monday, Everyone! Today marks my first day of school, and despite not being ready for my summer vacation to be over (I’m NEVER ready for it to be over), I’m really looking forward to this new school year. I have come to believe that attitude makes a huge difference, so I’m going into this year with a really positive outlook. My goal is to think before I speak, take a breath before responding, and to be as patient as possible. While most people enjoy my quick wit and snappy retorts, I know that my style isn’t for everyone, so I’m going to ease my students into getting to know me by trying a kinder, gentler approach.

FMM: Inappropriate Questions

1. Will you vote in the upcoming presidential election? Absolutely. It’s a privilege that people in other countries die for.

2. Do you say curse words? I do, although I really watch myself at work. Sometimes nothing quite fits like a good 4-letter word, but in most cases I try to find another word.

3. Have you ever kissed a stranger? Yes, both at a club on the dance floor in my younger days, and at a luau in Hawaii (when everyone went around kissing the entire group).

4. If you could choose to meet only one fellow blogger in person right now who would you choose? This one is no-brainer for me – Scale Warfare. She and I have become such great friends over the years, even though we’ve never met in person. I’d love to meet her and just give her a hug. If you haven’t checked out her blog, you should. She’s lost 120 lbs! Very inspiring.

5. What is the most inappropriate pick-up line that anyone has ever used on you? Oh, I have had so many over the years it would be difficult to pick just one. Guys really need to get better game.

6. Do you sing in the shower? Oddly enough, no. I do my best thinking in the shower. But I do hold entire concerts in my car, my kitchen, or around the house while cleaning.

7. How often do you get drunk? I don’t get drunk if I can avoid it. I’ve been at that point many times over the years, but I hate feeling out of control. Lately I haven’t even been drinking at all, avoiding the unnecessary calories.

8. Have you ever been fired from a job? No.

9. Were you popular in high school? I wasn’t in the mean girl, popular group, but I was friendly with them. I had a core group of friends whom I could spill my inner most secrets to, but I was also friends with people from all the different cliques at my school. I’d say that everyone in my graduating class knew me, although I should point out that I went to private school, so there were only about 120 of us.

10. Who is your current celebrity crush? Johnny Depp, George Clooney, or Joe Manganiello, to name a few.

Happy Monday, Everyone! This past weekend was my last one without any major obligations. This week I return to school 3/5 days, which will ease me into my full school schedule, which begins August 20th. I continued a new obsession, nail care, on Friday after a shopping trip on the cosmetic aisle at Target. I relaxed and enjoyed life most of Saturday, and then had a bit of a cooking debacle on Saturday night. And then yesterday, I spent 3 1/2 hours cleaning my house from top to bottom, which felt great. It’s sparkling clean! Now all I have is the closets, which I’m planning on tackling later this afternoon and again on Thursday. Today I’m looking forward to catching up with FaveCousin as we enjoy some pool time.

FMM: In the Kitchen

1. How often do you cook at home? Every single day – breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I rarely eat out, and have all but cut out social engagements that involve food until I reach my pre-surgery weight loss goal.

2. Do you eat more fresh produce, frozen or canned produce? I really only eat fresh produce. The only time I have frozen is for my smoothies because frozen fruit works better. If it’s not in season, I don’t eat it. That’s how I grew up. I’m also lucky enough to live in the SF Bay Area, where fresh fruits and veggies are locally grown and available year-round.

3. What are a few unusual staples that can always be found in your kitchen? This one is difficult to answer, because the foods I eat all seem common to me, but then again, I’m used to eating all kinds of food. Maybe ricotta?  I love having it on a piece of toast topped with a tomato.  Or spread over a wrap.  So good!

4. Look in your fridge, then tell us about the healthiest thing in there. My fridge is full of healthy things, see for yourself:

5. Now share the most unhealthy thing in it. I have some beer in the back of the fridge, in case someone comes over and wants one, but I haven’t had one in months.  In fact, I haven’t had much alcohol at all, since I’ve been stricter with my diet.

6. Do you eat leftovers? Definitely.  The one thing I won’t do is eat the same thing for dinner two nights in a row.  I need variety.

7. Do you use coupons at the supermarket? Not really.  I do pay attention to what’s on sale when I’m at the grocery store, though. Since I get most of my groceries from Trader Joe’s coupons and sales really aren’t applicable.  The one thing I do use is the “Just for You” program that Safeway has.  I like that it’s customizable.

8. How often do you try new recipes? I used to try a new recipe every single week, but now I just try new recipes when I see something that inspires me, like Sriracha-grilled tofu.  With Pinterest, it’s so easy to find new recipe inspiration.  I’m much better about trying new things in the fall and winter, when I’m less on-the-go and my schedule is more regulated.

9. Do you make grocery lists? Normally I don’t make grocery lists, unless I have a recipe in mind that I’m shopping for.  I buy what interests me at the store, as long as it fits within my food guidelines.

10. If you could buy one food item that would magically be calorie-free, which item would you choose? Pasta!

I absolutely loved this week’s topic, and I look forward to getting inspired by reading everyone else’s posts. Now it’s your turn to share. Don’t forget to go back to Kenlie’s blog to link up in the comments!
