reverb13-blog-button Throughout the month of December, I’ll be participating in #reverb13: Reverb is a way to reflect on the past year and project into the next year with a prompt a day for 31 days.  December is the perfect time to reflect on 2013 and start to create intentions for 2014.

Day 16: Photo Opp
1,000 Words | There’s the old saying that a photo is worth 1,000 words.  Give us a photo with that impact that sums up some significant even of your 2013, or give us 1,000 words about a pivotal moment in 2013

Throughout the month of December, I’ll be participating in #reverb12: celebrating the successes of 2012, honoring the challenges of 2012, and planting the seeds for a rich and rewarding 2013. December is the perfect time to reflect on the year that has passed and start to manifest dreams for the new year.

Day 6 – What Did You Learn?
Compare the “you” from the beginning of 2012 to the “you” that you are now. What new skills or talents have you learned or discovered this year?

This year, through sites like Pinterest, I fully discovered my love for beautiful photos, art, and design. I’ve always known that I loved those things, but up until recently it remained an appreciation of others’ talents. This year was no different, although I did begin to foster my own abilities of putting layouts together. Nothing especially noteworthy, but the interest deepened.

Next year I’d like to see myself spend more time and energy developing creatively. I’m interested in learning how to art journal, to create images like this one:

I’ve even looked into classes at a local art studio in my neighborhood.  The combination of images and words is so unique and beautiful to me.  I’m excited to tap into this creative pursuit.

Are you as addicted to Pinterest as I am?!  I absolutely love going on there to dream, to be inspired, to learn, and to grow.  And, okay, to waste a ton of time.  I find so many interesting ideas from Pinterest everyday, and I just wanted to share some of it with you guys on a weekly basis.  Hence Pinterest Perspectives.

Just last night I discovered a new photo enhancement website called PicMonkey:

I was overjoyed to find this easy-to-use photo editing site because I’ve just gotten into playing with photos this way.  I can only imagine all of the fun I’ll have and all of the improvements I can make to the look and feel of my posts. And who knows, maybe it will inspire me to take more photos and develop an entirely new hobby!

As an example, here’s a photo I took a few years ago when I was in Chicago.  I loved the retro look of this sign:

and here’s what I did to it in a few minutes on PicMonkey:

Pretty cool, right?

So, if you love playing around with photos, go and check out PicMonkey today.  You can thank me later!

For the month of December, I’ll be participating in #WEverb11. Each day gives a new prompt, each of which is a chance to reflect and look forward.

December 26: Revive

Share a favorite photo from the past year. What was happening behind the scenes? What were you thinking or feeling? What could you smell, taste, see, hear at that moment? Contributed by Tara.

This was taken on the beach in Carmel this summer.  It was the first time that Sofi had ever been on the beach, and the first time I’d gone with my sister and my nieces and their dog this summer.  In fact, I think it was the only time all of us were able to go.

I love how Sofi’s hair is so wind-blown and her eyes are all squinty, because of the wind.  She was in awe of all of the sand around us. It was so much fun just being out there with her and watching her observe everything.

It was good for me because I got out of my own comfort zone and let Sofi go off leash.  I had to put a lot of faith in the fact that she wouldn’t go off too far and that she’d come back to me when I called her.  I remember just how nervous I was that day as she walked just a few feet from me.  And when she went a bit farther, I got even more nervous, but I just let her go, with my sister’s coaching and encouragement.  And then I called to her and she came, and it was the best feeling ever.

It was the only time I’ve ever taken Sofi to the beach, and I’d had such a good time, I think I might just take her again this week.  So what if it’s December and it’s cold outside?  We’re not going to go swimming – Sofi is scared of the ocean (or she was, last time, anyway) and I’m not going to take a swim.  The weather at the beach is usually warmer than inland (where I live) this time of year, and our weather has been gorgeous around here lately – 60s and sunny.  I don’t have any plans on Wednesday, so I think I’m going to head to Santa Cruz (or maybe Half Moon Bay) with Sofi and make a day of it.

This photo also reminds me to take more photos of everyday life.  Because you never know when you’re capturing a memory.

A day in the life. Or, all the things I did to avoid grading those darn essays that I need to get finished before Tuesday. (And I’d feel so much better if I went into the workweek with them finished).

Changed the sheets on the bed:

Drank lots of coffee!

(I hate that burn on the countertop, but it’s from a previous tenant).

Refereed overly passionate playing puppies.  And played with them a bit, too:

Went shopping at Trader Joe’s and Target and…

…filled the fruit bowl

…stocked the freezer (Lean Cuisine’s on sale at Target: $2 each, plus buy 4, get 1 free, so for 10 dinners, I paid $16: $1.60 each!!)

…made sure that all my favorite, healthy foods were ready for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner all week:

(Don’t worry about that overly-processed bologna-looking turkey, that’s what Lulu uses to take her daily dose of Benedryl when I run out of regular turkey).

Tweeted, blogged/commented on blogs, checked FB – basically went to all my favorite online haunts:

I even did a bunch of laundry and folded it and put it away.

But now I’ve come to the point in the day when it really is unavoidable.  I need to get to the grading:

Wish me luck.
