Happy Monday, Everyone! For the first time in three weeks, I’m actually at work on a Monday. Go figure! But since I had to be at school until 9:30pm on Friday night to chaperone a play, only to turn around and be back at 7:15am on Saturday to proctor the SAT, I think taking the last couple of Mondays off was justified. Plus, October is a l-o-n-g month with no holidays, so most teachers take a few days here and there to break it up a bit.

FMM: Winning the Lottery

What’s the first thing you would do for yourself if you won 100 million dollars? Note: this question is specifically for you…what would you do for fun after the family and the bills and the obvious stuff was taken care of?

OMG! Kenlie, I am so glad that you posted this fun topic. With budget cuts in an already meager teacher’s salary, I feel like I never have enough money. Just last week, our local ABC station was running a contest to win $49,000 (tied to the Thursday Night Football game the 49ers played). Unfortunately, I didn’t win. But here’s a chance to dream a little bit.

In no particular order….

I’d buy a house for myself. In fact, I might even buy the duplex that my sister and I live in. I don’t need some McMansion, and I abhor moving, so I’d be very comfortable living here for the foreeseable future. It would be nice, though, not to have to worry about rent/mortgage payments.

After paying off my VW Convertible Beetle, I’d buy a few more cars.

First, I’d get a Lexus RX so that I could use it for trips skiing (which I’ve never done, but would love to try) and to cart my bike here and there on the weekends. I like this rich bronze color because it’s so unusual.

I’d also want to buy a 1964 Dodge Dart. My mom had one when I was little, and I loved that car. Plus, it would be such a cool car to drive around in once in a while. (When weather wasn’t a factor).

Moving past cars, I’d purchase tons of clothes from Anthropologie, Nordstrom, Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic, etc. A few items I’d pick up…

Of course I’d buy all sorts of beautiful, ridiculous shoes.

Who am I really kidding? More like this:

I’d also like to buy some signature jewelry from Cartier or Tiffany.

And I’d travel…

It would be so fun to be able to buy anything I want, anytime I want. To go wherever my heart desired, by whatever means I felt like. The security of not worrying about money and being able to enjoy my family and friends until the end of my days. Ahhhhhh….it’s fun to dream, isn’t it?

What would you spend your money on???

Now it’s your turn to share. Don’t forget to go back to Kenlie’s blog to link up in the comments!

Do you call a couple of months ago when I needed some advice about which color I should buy the Bloch Lightening shoes in? I really wanted the Multi, but they’d been out of stock so long on Zappos, that I finally broke down and decided to go with another color? Well, I’m so glad that I did.

I am LOVING the turquoise, yellow, green, and black combo!  They pair nicely with so many of the clothes I workout in, and they have just the right amount of pizzazz for Zumba shoes.

I wanted to try them out both in a class at the gym as well as at home for this review.  I can say that at first they’re really slippery, especially on my bamboo floors at home.  I felt like I was going to slide across the floor a few times that first evening.  They were better at the gym because those hard wood floors aren’t quite as smooth as mine at home.

The sole of the shoe has that unique pivot point near the ball of the foot that makes turns a breeze.  I’ve never been able to move as quickly as I have while wearing these shoes. I still may not be completely graceful (yet!), but I didn’t feel like the shoes were holding me back, as I used to wearing my Ascics or even my Reebok Flex. The right equipment makes all the difference in performance, and these shoes are no exception to that statement. I know I’m going to be a better Zumba participant now that I have the proper shoes.

These shoes are the opposite of clunky sneakers.  I love their lightness; I feel like I could dance all day in these shoes!  I’m not sure how they’d hold up for walking/running, but they’re meant as dance shoes, and that’s what I plan to do when I’m wearing them.  These are the go-to Zumba and U-Jam Fitness shoes, for sure.

I agree with the reviewers on Zappos who said that these shoes run small.  I originally bought the 8 1/2 (I normally wear an 8 in sneakers), but had to go up to a 9 for them to fit comfortably.  Now that I have the 9s though, I can say that these are really comfortable shoes, even with my recent by plantar fasciitis.

The price is great, too.  I picked them up for $66 on Zappos, and I know it’s going to be money well spent, because I’ll get a ton of use out of them.

All in all, I highly recommend these shoes.  I also recommend you buy them in person so you can try them on, or like I did, on Zappos, where you get free shipping both ways.

I’m usually a really decisive person. I know what I like and I can decide on things quickly. When I knew I wanted to buy Zumba shoes, I wanted to get the highly acclaimed Bloch Lightenings in Multi…

I love that the background is black and that these would literally go with everything and anything.

I even ordered them in my normal size (8), but when they arrived, they were so tight that I couldn’t even get them on my foot. The nice thing about Zappos is that returns are simple, and I got credited to my account right away.  But I still needed shoes.  I went back and read the reviews on Zappos, and found that most people had ordered a size up.  I tried to get them in a 9, but they were sold out.  That was more than a month ago, and I’m still waiting.  I’m just too impatient to wait any longer, and rather than go to a retailer I don’t trust, I decided to go back to Zappos and see what they have.

Two choices in the Bloch Lightening (which really are supposed to be the best shoes for Zumba), pink or lime.  I don’t hate either, but I’m not in love with either.  I’m sort of {meh} about both.  And since we’re talking about workout shoes, not shoes for the red carpet, it’s time to just make a decision.

So, here’s where I need your input.  Which do I choose?  Lime?  Pink?  Help me decide, please.

I really want to get these shoes squared away, because as soon as the weather turns cooler, making outdoor exercising a thing of the past, I’m going to be taking Zumba 2-3 times a week.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Update 9/2:  As luck would have it, neither of these shoes were available on Zappos in the size I needed.  Since I had the store credit for the other returned shoes, I needed to find something there that would work.  Yesterday at Zumba I asked the instructor what she recommended (she had on the lime & purple ones, above), and she said that she has many different pairs of Blochs, in all different styles/colors.  She loves them for Zumba/dance classes, and she said that lots of other Zumba teachers do, too.  So, I went on Zappos this morning  searching for other Bloch styles, and I found these:
Bloch Apex in Marine
I love that they have a black background (as opposed to white, like both styles above), and that they were in my size!  I think the turquoise and yellow makes them fun and funky – all the things I was looking for in a Zumba shoe.  And after looking at them really closely, I really don’t see any difference between these and the Lightenings.  So, I think these are going to be a great choice.
Thanks again for everyone who voted – I really appreciate the input.
What a great weekend! Especially today, so I thought it was time for another edition of Sunday Smiles, where I take photos of all the things that made me smile today.
Friday
It started off with me taking Friday off so I could see CTLB who was out from Boston visiting SF. We only spent about 2 hours together, but it was so good to see her in person and catch up a bit. I’m hoping that the next time we see each other there will be a lot less of me for her to see!
I raced home from San Fran in order to set up the Lulu’s 1st birthday party.  Those of you who are friends with me on Facebook might’ve already seen these photos, but for those who aren’t here are some highlights…
I didn’t expect to find puppy party supplies at the store I went to, but there they were, and of course I couldn’t resist.
I also made sure we had sweet treats for the puppies and the girls, too. The chocolate cupcakes are for the girls and the cookie cupcakes were for Lulu and Minnie.
And here are a few shots of the birthday girl herself, Miss Lulu.
This one is going to serve as a “before” photo someday soon.
And finally, you know it’s a good party when one of the pooches is pooped out!
Saturday was a nice day.  LC and I went to Zumba, I did a bit of household stuff, and generally relaxed, but nothing really noteworthy happened, other than making The Best dinner.
Oh, I also got some new shoes which I absolutely love!!!
Yes, they are furry, too.  They look just like Vans, but they’re from Payless Shoe Source.  I got another pair in solid canvas black.  So comfy and so sassy.
Sunday
LC and I decided that we’re going to make going to the farmers market a regular part of our Sunday morning routine, so we started off there. The girls came along, too, and had lots of fun looking at all of the arts & crafts, flowers, and produce. I bought my new favorite – dino kale, as well as some savoy cabbage.
I’m always looking for a great plant for my dining table, and today I picked up a pretty, purpley-pinkish ranunculus.
Next up, we stopped at PetFoodExpress to get some food and a two-dog leash.  I’ve been telling LC how difficult it is to take both dogs at once.  And most of the time my parents and the kids come along, but some days they can’t/don’t want to, and I always feel badly about leaving Minnie out, so LC decided time to try a leash made for both of them. Here we are about to take off on our maiden walk.
I was definitely keeping my fingers crossed, but I never had anything to worry about:
And here’s a bit of video so you can see it in action:
And of course, since tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, I spent a bit of time writing cards to my family:
Maybe next year I’ll have a true valentine to give a card to.  If it’s right, it’ll happen.
A perfectly lovely day, not to mention the fact that I’ve resisted quite a few temptations this weekend and stayed 100% on Medifast (and it’s showing on the scale), but I’ll save that for the Wednesday Weigh-In post. All in all, lots of simple moments that put a smile on my face today.
51QHJQACFOL._AA280_I just bought a pair of Skechers Shape-Ups from Amazon.com.
Have you seen the ads for these shoes?  I’ve seen them in a few magazines, including WW and Women’s Health.  I thought they looked interesting, especially because I was sure they were a lot cheaper than MBTs.  I bought them on a whim today, but I’m actually really excited about getting them.
They’re supposed to “promote weight loss; tone back, ab, calf, and buttocks muscles; and improve posture.”  The technology used in these shoes is very similar to that of MBTs, only I think these are sooooooo much cuter than MBTs. These black and white Skechers remind me of Vann’s, which I love.
The reviews that I read about these shoes all say they’re really comfortable and that they did all the things they promise to do. Can’t beat that.  My sister has a pair of MBTs that cost twice as much, and she loves them.  I’m hoping that these shoes will serve me just as well.
I bought the exact pair you see above, which oddly enough, wasn’t available on the Skechers.com website, but was available on Amazon.com.  Strange, right?
Here’s a video, in case you want to find out more. The video is great at showing how the shoes look on someone.  I think they look really great, much better than the picture above makes them out to be.
I should receive them early next week, right before my birthday (I’ll consider them another birthday present to myself), and I’ll definitely let you know how I like them.
