  1. Pink-Fuzzy-Scale-Close-Up This week the scale has been especially friendly.  I weigh myself every morning because it helps me stay on track, but I usually wait to record my results until my “official” Sunday weigh-in posts.  This week I’ve been posting my weigh-in results on MyFitnessPal almost daily because I’ve been seeing so much success.  This morning when I stepped on the scale, it showed me that I am in the 180s!!!!!!  I hit 189.8, and I can’t think of a better way to cap off this fun week.
  2. house-of-cards Why oh why did I start watching this show this week? Don’t get me wrong, I am LOVING this show – Kevin Spacey is at his wicked best in this role. The problem is I have a ton of essay that I should be grading instead of “binge watching” this show.  I’m in the middle of Season 1, and each episode is better than the last.  Have you seen it?
  3. 641824507c73119da15f061879f96791 I’m a huge coffee fan, and one of my very favorite blends is Casi Cielo from Starbucks.  The package says that it has notes of lemon and dark cocoa.  It’s also only available for a very short time – January through late February, which makes it all the more special.  My sister and I are obsessed – we buy a new box of KCups every time we go into a Starbucks. On a side note, I’m actually really proud about how I’ve cut down on my daily coffee consumption.  Before surgery I would drink a 12-cup pot of coffee daily.  I know! Crazy, right?  Now I’m down to 1 cup a day, two at the most on the weekends, which is why I switched to a Keurig.
  4. I need some new pjs.  The ones I bought for myself a few months ago are practically falling off, but I hate to get rid of them because they’re so comfy.  Still, it’s always fun to shop for new, smaller clothes.  Here’s a pair that have caught my eye:

5.  Hawaii is on my mind.  I leave for my trip in 41 days, and I can’t begin to describe how excited I am.  There are three things on my Fitness Bucket List that I may be able to cross off during my trip:

    • Swim in the ocean in a tropical locale (Hawaii, Mexico, the Bahamas, etc).
    • Learn (or at least attempt) to surf.
    • Go ziplining.

We’ll see what I end up doing, but for now, it’s so fun to imagine the vacation possibilities.

This month I’m participating in 30 Days of Thanks (#30DaysofThanks) by writing a blog post about 30 things I’m thankful for. To join in, go to the link above. The best part is, you don’t need to have a blog or even be on social media to take part in the project; you just need to be thankful. I can’t wait to see how my life might change by spending the 30 days in November giving thanks for things in my life — every single day.

Today I am thankful that my sister and I found some time in our busy schedules to slip away and go to see The Perks of Being a Wallflower before it left theatres.  If you didn’t get to see it, do.  If you haven’t read the book, read it.  Go buy the soundtrack, it’s fantastic.  Or, if you want, just go listen to it on Spotify:

The movie was beautifully done.  I think it helped that the novel’s author, Stephen Chbosky, wrote the screenplay and directed the film, too.  As much as I loved the book, I think this film might have been even better.  Although that might have been because the actors were so endearing.  It was truly one of the best movies I have seen in recent memory.

Afterward, LC and I went to Starbucks for a bit of an afternoon pick-me-up, and to take advantage of their “buy one holiday drink, get the other free from 2pm-5pm deal”.  I treated myself to a Grande Skinny Peppermint Mocha for 130 calories.  It was a delicious treat.

Weekends like this one, where my sister and I get to spend a lot of time together (we lounged around for much of the day yesterday, too) are all too rare, making them all the more precious.  I’m so grateful that my sister is my best friend and that she and my nieces live right next door.

Every morning I’m in a rush to leave the house on time.  No matter what time I wake up,  I always seem to need more time to go through my morning routine, get ready for work, and leave the house. 

Most of the time I don’t have time to eat breakfast at home, and more times than not, I end up bringing some half-assed breakfast with me to work.  I mean, yogurt and a  banana are good for you, but probably not enough to truly start the day. 

Some days that I have an extra 5-7 minutes, I’ll stop at Starbucks for a Skinny Cinnamon Dolce latte and splurge on a 7-point Reduced-Fat Turkey Bacon, Cholesterol-Free Egg, Reduced-Fat White Cheddar Breakfast Sandwich.  I love the way it tastes and keeps me filled up, but “spending” 10 points on breakfast takes away a lot of food options for later in the day.

Last night I went to Safeway to do shopping for the week, and I saw the new(ish) Smart Ones breakfast sandwiches that I’d read about in the WW Magazine.

 

They were on sale – 3  boxes for $8.  I know that sounds sort of expensive, but if you work it out, it’s quite a bit cheaper than the Starbucks alternative.  Each box comes with 2 sandwiches, so 8 / 6 = $1.33, compared to $2.95 per sandwich at Starbucks.  Not only that, but each of these WW breakfast sandwiches has only 4 points, compared to 7. 

I had my first one this morning, the Canadian Bacon, Egg, & Cheese Muffin, and it was really tasty.  And filling.  I know I have to be careful with the sodium, but since I really don’t eat any other frozen, prepared, food, I think these are ok during the week. 

I think I may head to Safeway before the new ad comes out on Wednesday, and stock up on some more, because they’re really good.
