Today my workout plan was to hit the gym and go to aqua aerobics, which was perfect, considering the temps were supposed to be in the 80s. But then I got home and it was in the 90s and not dropping anytime soon, and I went with Plan B.
I know what you’re thinking, “Bella, if it’s that hot, a pool workout sounds ideal, what’s the problem?”
I needed to walk Sofi because the poor thing was cooped up all day, and needed to get out and really move. It was still in the 90s at 5:30, when I would’ve needed to leave to take Sofi on the walk so that I could still make it to the class. It would have been after 8pm when I got home from the class, and much too dark to take her for the walk she needed.
So, I made the executive decision to skip the aqua class, and wait until it cooled down to take Sofi on a really long, 45-minute walk. It was great for both of us. After the walk, I noticed lots of roses and other plants in my garden that needed some TLC, so I spent some time dead-heading and watering. All told, I burned 571 calories anyway.
Would I have burned more in the aqua class? Sure. But sometimes it’s not about more, it’s about what fits better. And I still got in a great calorie burn before the day was done, and really, that’s what matters most to me.
Agreed, Bella. How lucky you are to have such warm weather! We are frozen-but going to Cyprus in a few weeks-plenty of hot weather walking-here’s to executive functioning!
Wow, Cyprus sounds so glamorous and exotic! I hope you have a great time. You’re sure to get better weather there.
I think that’s a good decision right there, Bella. I’ve done a few aqua classes and I like them, but they don’t really kick my butt like other things could/do.
Oh, Emily, you need to come to the aqua class that I go to – the teacher kicks our asses with the things she asks us to do! I get an amazing workout. I think the teacher can make all the difference.
I just wanted to thank you for your comment 🙂 Big HUG
Aqua classes sound fun
I think that was the perfect decision. It’s so important to know when you need to simply change things around to make them fit better. I’m trying to learn to go with the flo more, and to not sweat the small things- like changed plans 🙂
